Pride,
integrity and enthusiasm these qualities shine through
the McLaughlin's ROOTER-MAN
sewer and drain cleaning business. Before
venturing into the sewer and drain cleaning world, Brian worked
as a mechanic; and for awhile he was a city bus driver in Haverhill
and Lawrence, Massachusetts. Brian was not satisfied with his
chosen profession. Luckily, he came across an ad for the position
of a serviceman for Glenn Daigle's
ROOTER-MAN
franchise in Methuen, Massachusetts. Hardworking McLaughlin
was Glenn's first employee, and remained for four years. As
a serviceman Brian was able to learn the ropes of the trade
and found he enjoyed the job. As a family decision the McLaughlin's
moved to Tennessee to be closer to Brian's wife's family. Brian
envisioned establishing a
ROOTER-MAN
franchise of his own in Tennessee like the one he had belonged
to in Massachusetts. The south had yet to see a ROOTER-MAN
and Tennessee seemed like a promising place due to it's large
population.
In
1990 Brian and his wife introduced ROOTER-MAN
to the people of Tennessee. They have been running a successful
and growing sewer and drain cleaning business for ten years
now. The business is part of the family. Mr. and Mrs. McLaughlin
nurtured the business like a child; and have watched it grow
to be very successful. They service East Memphis, Germantown,
Midtown, Raleigh, and Whitehaven twenty-four hours a day and
seven days a week. They work together, managing the business.
Even one of their sons is a full time serviceman. Brian believes
that the business will change the future of the McLaughlin family
tree. He hopes to pass the business to future generations so
they may enjoy the same success as he and his wife.
"The
quality of service is only as good as those who provide it,
but the success that we enjoy is a direct result of the Rooter-Man
franchise," said McLaughlin. He takes much pride in being
part of the franchise. Brian is the perfect example to illustrate
the success of a franchise. He said, "Being part of a franchise
takes the guess work out of things." Brian compared his success
with the franchise system, to his brother's business which is
an independent plumbing company. Brian, feels he is more successful
because he can go to others in the
ROOTER-MAN
franchise to talk about problems and have questions answered.
All the guidelines are set up in a franchise so the dealer knows
what works and what does not. He also discussed how the franchise
leaves room for growth in the company. Brian wants to establish
more franchises in Arkansas and Mississippi. McLaughlin said,
"Let's grow." TOUR

When
asked what he enjoyed about the business of sewer and drain
cleaning Brian said, "I love to do the things that others will
not attempt." Competitors will often try to undertake jobs that
they are unable to do. Brian likes to take on these challenges
and use his mechanical skills to correct the situation. As the
owner he likes to be on top of things, and know what people
are doing while representing
ROOTER-MAN.
To Brian it is important to employ others who are honest and
hardworking. In turn he gives his employees benefits, high commission,
and an atmosphere of honesty and integrity.
McLaughlin
is very ambitious, and excited for the future. He plans to continue
growth and add services. The times are changing here at the
turn of the century; however, people are always going to need
the sewer and drain cleaning business. Brian believes it will
grow with technology. His business already uses services such
as hydro-jetting, pumping, a complete plumbing repair service,
and he is looking into excavating and video inspections to detect
underground leaks.
Brian
McLaughlin went from bus driver to the owner and operator of
a growing and successful business. He is enthusiastic and most
importantly happy with What he does. "Anybody that makes a go
at it and puts the effort in can be successful,"
Brian McLaughlin.
